The European Commission has updated its cosmetics products regulation, imposing a maximum concentration of o-phenylphenol, according to a report published by Chemical Watch.
A maximum concentration of 0.15 percent has been mandated for leave-in products while rinse off products are permitted up to 0.2 percent. Labels must also carry a warning directing the consumer to avoid contact with eyes.
In addition, sodium o-phenylphenol, potassium o-phenylphenol and MEA o-phenylphenol as preservatives may no longer be used as preservatives.
