I love them; they do wonders for my oily combo skin in terms of regulating and balancing sebum production; moisturising; clarifying as well as antioxidant & anti aging properties.
What I look for – Oils that are cold pressed and unrefined; so maintaining as much of their properties and functions as possible.
Oils that are powerful antioxidants such as pomegranate seed oil – this contains ellagic acid which is a potent antioxidant.
Oils that contain EFA + FA (essential/ fatty acids) such as omega 3,6 & 9. These are natural penetration enhancers; they help increase transport of bioactive agents through the skin.
Borage oil; a favourite of mine has the richest source of GLA (Omega 6) to help treat skin disorders and inflammation.
Hemp oil; another favourite has been dubbed ‘natures perfectly balanced oil’ contains all known 20 amino acids and a 3:1 ratio of omega 6 to 3 EFA – this is similar to what the body needs and optimum requirement for healthy skin.
These are the ones I’m currently reaching for:
Sunday Riley Artemis – Great for oily/combo and confused skin. If I’m congested/oily I reach for this. Would definitely repurchase; but it’s discontinued so planning on reformulating for personal use.
Sunday Riley Luna – I class this more as a nourishing, hydrating oil because the percentage of retinol present in the formula wouldn’t necessarily help towards any retinol type claims. I love this for the overnight glow. Won’t repurchase for £85; might reconsider if there was a deal.
May Lindstrom the youth dew – loved this sample and I would repurchase if i thought it was worth the hefty price tag…..I honestly don’t.
Pixi Rose oil blend – this is my no fuss nourishing and regenerating oil. Same as Luna to be perfectly honest just cheaper and without the dash/speckle/dust of vitamin A. Would I repurchase? Not sure.
Own formula astaxanthin & chia seed oil – my holy grail oil. Formulated and tailored to my skin condition and need. Took a while but finally think I’ve reached the perfect balance. Light, fast absorbing; full of potent antioxidants and anti aging cold pressed and unrefined oils with the right balance of anti inflammatory, anti bacterial + skin regenerating properties.
